Merida 6 days and 5 nights

The Andes, the longest mountain range in the world starts in the north of Venezuela. Mérida (1.639 m) is the most popular destination for an adventurous holiday. This beautiful area offers ideal conditions for climbing, hiking, mountain biking, rafting and horse riding tours.

DESCRIPTION

Day 1
Arrival to the airport Alberto Carnevalli in Merida, there somebody will be waiting for you to take you to the inn or hotel of your choice. Lunch and dinner not included.

Day 2
After breakfast, you will depart approx. at 8:00 am to the “Paramo of Misinta”, there you will hike for around 3 hours through the wonderful landscapes of the Venezuelan highlands with its fertile arable land. The lunch would be in a typical mountain guest house at 3.358 m. of altitude located in the national park of “La Culata”. In the evening you will go to the “mucoposada” (a traditional Andean house) to have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 3
Today you will have the experience of ride horses through the enchanting “paramo” atmosphere, between fog and “freilejones”. From these mountains you can observe how the farmers work the land and how potatoes, carrots, garlic, lettuce and other vegetables are grown. This excursion will take about 6 hours; at the end of the day you will enjoy a substantial dinner. The overnight would be in a beautiful, country-style Andean house at 3.400 meters of altitude.

Day 4
You will have time to take a walk around the village which has an ideal location on the mountains. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to visit Sierra Nevada with its lakes “Mucumbaji” and the “Laguna Negra” (Black Lagoon). Afterwards, you will see the highest road in Venezuela, Pico el Aguila and the condor station MIMAFI. In the early evening you will approach the village of Gavidia in the same valley where you will also stay overnight at an altitude of 3.300m at sea level.

Day 5
After breakfast you will have time to visit the area and enjoy the peaceful quietness of this place while the “freilejones”, which grow only at this altitude. In the afternoon, would be the return to Merida. Dinner not included.

Day 6
After breakfast would start the next excursion, visit to the longest cable car in the world, “Teleferico de Mérida”. When it reaches the last station, you would be at 4.765 meters of altitude. During this trip you will have the opportunity of observing the different vegetation areas, to walk around the lakes and to study the plants. Afterwards, you will have time for lunch and then somebody will take you to the airport. Dinner not included.
